The Biggest Destination: Russia
For a long time I have wanted to go to Russia. I always heard and read about this country in many movies, news, history books and politics, as a big country with a lot of influence around the world, but with a non typical western culture. This last fact made me more curious about this other side of the World.
As a southamerican, United States had always influenced in our culture, with such a normal thing for us like Hollywood. However, this kind of films I always found very repetitive in their narrative and not so representative of my personal experience of life. So one of the first things I started seeing to explore and understand the russian culture and history, was the sovietic movies and then I couldn't stop! I became a big fan of sovietic style of films, specially because it was totally different as the hollywood style, so it was something completely new for me and also because I felt more identificated with the characters of the russian directors. My favorite movie is "The Diamond Arm de Leonid Gaidai".
The films show the russian lifestyle of the sovietic period and within another fact that makes me dream of going to Russia, the socialist architecture. This style of buildings is called "brutalism" that doesn't go with the western standard of buildings. Some of the main characteristics of this building are their massive size, their rigid and geometric style made with poured concrete and that most of them were made for housing complexes that have the idea, as socialist architecture, of sharing spaces with the community.
So my plan is to go to Moscow and take a course to learn how to speak russian, so then I can listen to the russian movies without subtitles! And if it is possible, I would like to stay in Moscow and work there, to save the enough money to make a trip around Russia and Eastern Europe to find and explore the ubication of all this Brutalist Architecture, taking photos to each building to make, as the designer that I'm, a photo-book of this trip edited by me.

Finally a Comrade!!!(?)
